My grandfather grew up during the depression and had a Mom and Pop grocery.

Started selling Hoover Vacuums door to door and then repairing them. Started a storefront selling Hoover’s and Singer sewing machines. Eventually added Maytag appliances and RCA radios and TVs. (Appliance Superstore back in the 50’s!!!) My Dad worked some for him doing deliveries and repairs. My point in all this rambling is that my Dad could fix most anything! We had the same washer/dryer for years... he just fixed them as needed. Refrigerator got moved to a few different houses and just got painted to match kitchen decor.
